It's the most intense Alex Cross thriller yet. In this latest novel by James Patterson, Cross is up to his eyeballs in murder and kidnapping and kitchen remodeling. Somebody is on a murder spree and the victims are massage parlor employees and patrons. Cross and his partner, John Sampson, are tackling these investigations. Meanwhile, Cross' wife, Bree, is after the kidnapper of two babies; one from a daycare center and the other from the victim's own house. In other parts of the city, a man named Terry Mulch and his female partner are causing havoc, but they soon turn to murder. It's a race against time when connections are made between the massage parlor murders and the babies. But what happens afterward will drive Cross to the brink of destruction, because Mulch has targeted not just the Washington detective, but his entire family.

Cross My Heart does not stop for a moment. Patterson leads you through a complex web of crime with surreal characters and lays it all out for you. There is no holding back on this one. I didn't want to stop listening to the audio version. Narrators Michael Boatman and Tom Wopat bring these characters to life, and then some. In this novel, I really felt the emotions from Cross because, more than in any previous novel, his family is in jeopardy. The subplots don't stay subplots for very long and, inevitably, Patterson brings everything to the forefront. And the story doesn't end here...any bets on if the next novel will be called Hope to Die? Can't wait.
