Crystalia is an imaginative children’s fantasy book by Andrea Denver. It follows the events of a new world that was formed after the infiltration of Earth (the old world) by catastrophic darkness. Seeing the greed and evil that had fallen upon Earth, seven archangels created Crystalia, an amazing magical place and the home of the Crystallites. But darkness soon began to creep into Crystalia. Dashin, a boy from the town of Tar-land, is chosen by the angels to save Crystalia by finding the crystals that contain the angels’ powers. Filled with fear and excitement, Dashin begins his journey. During his mission, he meets fascinating people. While he forms four amazing friendships, he is careful to look out for dishonest people and those who are acting as spies or have come into contact with the Abyss.

Crystalia inspires courage through its young, adventurous main character Dashin. Though he has the help of his friends, at one point on his journey he must carry out the mission by himself. I loved that comprehensive descriptions of Crystalia are included. They paint a breathtaking setting whose beauty is distinguished from the darkness and evil of the Abyss. From shape-shifting flying fairies to cheeky leprechauns and trees that can talk, the story contains many fascinating characters. The conflict in the book anchors the plot. It begins as the powerful angels plan to defeat Abaddon, the creator of the Abyss, by creating a free and tranquil world. But the Abyss slowly takes over the old world and now it is after Crystalia. Andrea Denver’s children’s fantasy story is an exciting read with many suspenseful twists.
