Cursed Vines by Suzanne Ferreira is an occult and paranormal tale that revolves around Portuguese folklore. The concept and premise are extensively developed into an intricate plot intertwined with Portuguese culture, the dynamics of the Portuguese community and the informative details of places in Portugal that serve as the background as events unfold. The meaning of ‘burning ears’ is fascinating and is something that I will keep in mind. The characters are well fleshed out and sufficient to say, I’m sad that some of them have unfortunate fates as the story progresses. Ferreira’s writing is sharp and the narrative is engaging, adding more depth to the story line that has enough twists and edgy moments to entertain readers. Overall, Cursed Vines is a solid and suspenseful mystic thriller from Ferreira.
