Stacy Monson’s Chain of Lakes Series continues with Volume 2, Dance of Grace. Vanessa Jordan’s dance studio is out of business. She lost a leg and her younger siblings to an auto accident more than three months ago. She blames God for destroying everything that mattered. Kurt Wagner, an ex-con with a second chance at life and faith, aches to shed his past and see his dream of helping teens become reality.

Vanessa and Kurt are two different people but struggle equally with life and have lots of things to overcome – Vanessa with her new life as a handicapped person and Kurt trying to shake off his ex-con past. Things are looking up when they form an unlikely alliance to build River House, a safe haven for kids on the street. When Kurt’s past starts to haunt him, with Vanessa involved as well, it takes their willpower and faith to keep the River House dream alive.

This plot is one of the best that I’ve read. The characterization quality is maintained as in Volume 1, Shattered Image. Vanessa and Kurt are well fleshed out and real. Their emotions are convincing, and will make it easy for readers to relate to them. The ordeal that the protagonists have to deal with is one of the important elements reflected in their journey of self-discovery. The secondary characters are included with much care and thought to enhance the overall experience of becoming acquainted with the protagonists. Coupled with Monson’s deft writing, the story flows well from start to finish. Overall, a great read.
