Dark Dragon is the eagerly awaited sequel to Rebecca K. Busch's young adult fantasy epic, Dragon Wing. After leading the fairies to a glorious victory against the invading Skar tribe, Sigrun Livingstone reluctantly assumes her responsibilities as the new Queen of the Northwoods. But a series of recurring nightmares and a palpable sense of dread make her lash out at friends, and she finds herself unable to control her rage. Determined to isolate herself from others and discover the root cause of her distress, Sigrun leaves her village unannounced and sets off for the dangerous Dragon Claw Mountain. Following on her heels are her two best friends, Khalon and Jae, who seek to protect her at any cost. Once they find her, can they handle the evil entity that inhabits the mountain, and what will Sigrun discover about her lineage?

Dark Dragon is a stellar sequel to Dragon Wing that continues Sigrun Livingstone's story as she delves into her own heritage. Fans of young adult fantasy books will find plenty to love about this book as the world gets even more fleshed out, with some new lore that adds intrigue to the setting. Sigrun has become a more mature individual with extra responsibilities, but she struggles to deal with her inner demons. Her conflicts and relationships seem to be the prime focus of Rebecca K. Busch's narrative. I love the fact that Khalon and Jae got individual point-of-view chapters. I enjoyed this book and urge fantasy lovers to give this series a go.
