Author Biography

S.K. Ryder is a software developer by day, a scribe by night and answers to Susan any time. She writes the type of stories she loves to read: heart-pounding adventures full of supernatural mysteries and relationships between strong, compelling characters. Though she calls South Florida home, she has also lived in Germany and Canada and has traveled widely, usually in the hot pursuit of wild and scenic nature. When not debugging code, complicating her characters' lives or plotting her next rafting adventure down the Grand Canyon, she can be found beach combing, scuba diving, sailing or just hanging out with a good book and a cat. When push comes to shove, she can also bake a halfway decent cake and stand on her head, though not at the same time.

In a fascinating and nail-biting new read by debut author S.K. Ryder, Dark Heart of the Sun: Dark Destinies Book One, readers will be treated to a story that will keep them obsessively turning the pages from the start all the way through to the very end. Follow the story of rookie journalist Cassie Chandler, a young woman with a lot of questions, not the least of them being how she got a wicked bruise on her neck, and why she can’t remember a chunk of time. She’s so certain that her fiancé is keeping something from her that she ends their engagement and moves out, determined to find the truth. When she meets Dominic Marchant, an enchanting Frenchman, the intrigue only increases. Dominic definitely has his secrets, the most important being that he is a newborn vampire being hunted by some pretty dangerous foes. Try as he might, he can’t help falling in love with Cassie. Will this clandestine relationship have a chance, or will both Cassie and Dominic come to a disastrous end? You’ll need to read the book to find out!

I so enjoyed Dark Heart of the Sun: Dark Destinies Book One. Author S.K. Ryder has done a fantastic job in creating characters that her readers will connect with, relate to and truly come to care about, thinking of them long after the book is done. If that isn’t a hallmark of a great author, I’m not sure what is. Her ability to create a realistic story with a supernatural twist is simply second to none and the chemistry between her main characters is hot, hot, hot! I am so pleased to be able to highly recommend this book to any reader who enjoys a great work of paranormal fiction, and I certainly look forward to reading more from the obviously talented author, S.K. Ryder, in the very near future!

Dark Heart of the Sun, the first book in the planned Dark Destinies series by new author S.K. Ryder, is a romance written especially for those who enjoy a little fantasy and fun in their reading. New journalist Cassie Chandler has found herself in quite a predicament. She’s left her fiancé after she suspects he’s hiding something very important from her; she’s suffering from memory loss; and she seems to have an injury to her neck. Complicating her life even further is the introduction of Dominic Marchant, an infuriating but intriguing man hailing from France. What she doesn’t know about Dominic, though, is that he’s a newly minted vampire, and one with some pretty terrifying enemies to boot. Falling in love with a vampire might not have been in her plans, but that’s exactly what happens - and before you know it, Cassie and Dominic are in the fight of their lives, both for their love and for their very existence.

Dark Heart of the Sun is a fast-paced, thrilling and exciting romance that many readers will find completely engaging. Author S.K. Ryder writes with abilities far exceeding those of most debut authors, and has done a fantastic job in presenting this first book in what appears to be a very promising new series. Readers who enjoy action, adventure, romance, mysteries, paranormal story lines or just a great work of fiction in general should absolutely give this book a chance. I can easily give this book a very enthusiastic endorsement, and I hope that author S.K. Ryder is already hard at work on the next installment of her series. I, for one, will be watching for it!

Cassidy always thought her life was going to be simple. When Jackson proposed, she assumed they’d be together forever, no matter what his family thought, but a few nights in his company with that family changed her mind. She never imagined what would happen when she decides to leave, however, and finds herself sharing a home with a man who’s more than her match in every way possible. Dominic Marchant isn’t just the sexy Frenchman she’s now found living in her spare bedroom; he’s definitely hiding something that she may never understand, at least, until fate throws a few things in their path. Dominic’s secret may tear them apart, but Jackson’s secret may do even more in Dark Heart of the Sun by S.K. Ryder.

It didn’t take me long to finish this book because I absolutely loved it! Even from the start, Cassidy was an intriguing character and she seemed like someone that any reader could relate to. When we met Dominic, he was just what you would expect from a main character in a romance novel; gorgeous, brooding, and with a secret side. But as you get to know him, he is so much more than that. There’s plenty of action going on in this book, alongside the romance, but it’s definitely the romance and the depths of love that made me keep reading until the end. You can bet I’ll be checking for the next books in this series really soon. Dark Heart of the Sun is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time.
