Author Biography

Karen Randau authors the Rim Country Mystery series set in the quaint fictional mountain town of Rim Vista, Arizona, below the Rim of the Colorado Plateau. She also is one of seven authors of a series of novellas in the Tawnee Mountain Series. Her books feature fast-paced stories with intricate plots and lots of action, told from the point of view of protagonist Rita Avery. Karen has traveled internationally and witnessed famines, violence, and hopeful people working to overcome abject poverty. She draws on both her creativity and personal experience to weave together an interesting cast of characters with rollercoaster-like twists and turns.

Her inspiration for Deadly Payload resulted from the arrest of a cell of Russian spies in the middle of America. She combined that with an interest in the safety of our country's water and food supply to come up with a book that features intrigue, twists, and action with a dash of romance.

Rita Avery has a husband and son ill with an unknown pathogen, birds are falling dead from the sky, it is hard to tell the good guys from the bad, and a disaster is looming. Rita is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery and solve the case as quickly as possible to save her family and all of the others who have been affected by this poison. As she investigates, the conspiracy becomes clear. It is obvious that there are Russian spies living in her community and planning bigger disasters that will cause even more havoc and death. Rita and her friends quickly find themselves in grave danger and their lives threatened, but it doesn’t stop them.

Deadly Payload will keep you on the edge of your seat and reading late into the night. Deadly Payload is the fourth book in the series. I did not read the first three (though I will be doing so now) but the book stood alone and on its own merit. Karen Randau has written a book that is in line with today's times; very believable and very good. There are many twists and turns and discoveries that were impossible to see coming before the mystery was solved. I believe all mystery, murder and conspiracy fans will really enjoy spending time with Rita, her husband, Cliff, crazy Mary, and the rest of the book’s characters. You will not be disappointed when reading Deadly Payload from beginning to end as the action never lets up.
