Deadly Secret is a romantic suspense novel written by Kathleen Boaz. Dr. Dakota Remington is tired of dealing with death as the Coroner at Clarin General Hospital in Los Angeles. She's selling her house and moving back to San Francisco to be with her mother. Dakota's father is terminally ill, and her mother has always depended so much upon him that Dakota feels her place is by her side. Tommy, her brother, a successful LA attorney and model, has been trying without much success to get her to close up the house rather than make the permanent move selling her house would entail, but she's determined. Adding to the strain of her father's illness is the rash of brutal murders of prostitutes that's plagued Los Angeles, and the horrifying fact that the murderer, for some reason, has fixated on Dakota, sending her messages, breaking into her house, and insinuating himself into her dreams at night. Tommy has tried to persuade her to stay in his ultra-secure high-rise condo with him, but she's terrified of heights. LA Detective Cage Atkins is one of the detectives working the serial killer case; he's also the man who introduced Dakota to Michael Stone, the fiance who left her for Cage's wife. Cage is concerned about Dakota's safety, and his invitation to the department's Christmas party, while seeming platonic, could lead to a lot more than that.

Kathleen Boaz's romantic suspense novel, Deadly Secret, is fast-paced and exciting. The serial killer who is killing prostitutes and stalking Dakota is both anonymous and terrifying, and the combined efforts of Police Detective Atkins and Dakota lend a marvelous police procedural aspect to the story. Boaz builds a taut, well-constructed plot that will keep mystery buffs considering the cleverly hidden clues and red herrings scattered throughout the plot, while the undercurrents of romantic tension between Dakota and Cage will keep romance fans feeling the heat. As a mystery buff whose favorite sub-genre is the police procedural, I particularly enjoyed following Atkins and his partner as they work to stop a serial killer. Deadly Secret is highly recommended.

Deadly Secret by Kathleen L. Boaz is an exciting, suspenseful book that was hard to put down. After having her heart broken and being violently attacked by a serial killer, Coroner Dakota Remington decides she needs a change in her life. Dakota chooses to quit her job, but before she has the chance, the serial killer strikes again and Dakota’s own family secrets are exposed.

I really enjoyed this book. There are murders, secrets and romance. All the things that make a story good. The plot itself is one that I have not come across before. When I first began reading Deadly Secret, I felt as if I was missing part of the story. Reading on, the story explains itself. There were even a few scenes with the serial killer that made me hold my breath while reading them. To this day, Boaz is the only author who has ever had that effect on me.

The character of Dakota carries a lot of emotional baggage after losing her fiancé to her detective friend’s wife and being attacked by the killer. Not only is Detective Cage a great dancer, but he is also a gentleman. It makes me wish that more men were like him in real life. The romance that happens in Dakota’s life was a little predictable. The thing that I did not predict was who the actual killer or killers were. I came close to solving the mystery, but in the end I had it wrong. I really like it when I cannot figure out who the murderer is before the author decides to tell. This is a good book! If you enjoy murder mysteries, then I recommend this book to you. I hope to read more of Boaz’s work in the future.

Deadly Secret by Kathleen Boaz introduces us to a young coroner, Dakota Remington. Dakota has endured a traumatic few years. She was brutally attacked and has terrible nightmares. To add to her misery, her fiancé dumped her for another woman. Enter a serial killer and a handsome detective into the mix, and you have a roller coaster ride! Detective Cage Atkins and his partner are investigating the murders of several women, whilst Dakota tries to unravel the puzzle along with them. A tangled, fast paced, twisting plot starts to form as the race begins to catch this elusive serial killer. Dakota has no interest in developing a romantic relationship, but Cage Atkins has other ideas. As they need to work together on this case, he has the opportunity to open her heart again, or smash it to pieces. Will he manage to capture this killer, and also capture Dakota's heart?

Deadly Secret by Kathleen Boaz is a fast paced murder mystery that will certainly hold your attention as you try to untangle the twisting plot. Constant turns will keep you guessing, over and over again, as the carefully woven, yet intricate tale unfolds at a rapid and steady pace. This is a book you will want to make as much time as possible to read, as the action never stops and there is really no good place to pause. The characters are vivid, realistic and easy to relate to, which adds the final touch to an enthralling read. I look forward to future books from this author.
