Judge Deborah Knott is back in her fourteenth episode. The citizens are unhappy. Farms are being bought up for shopping malls. Candace Bradshaw is found murdered. She was accused of brokering under the table deals. Deborah’s husband, Sheriff Bryant is on the case.

There is a strong sub-plot in this book. There is a very conservative church where women are expected to conform to a sub-servant role. The minister/preacher is a wacko forcing his wife to do things in front of the congregation that any sane man would never ask let alone force a woman to do. I give credit to the author for exploring this but doing so in a respectful manner.

There are plenty of sub plots in this book to keep you on the edge of your seat. I quickly turned the pages to see what would happen next. I must admit I picked the culprit right away. It was a little obvious. Fans of Deborah Knott will enjoy Death’s Half Acre.
