Deception is a crime thriller novella written by Dwayne T. Martin. It was Michael's proudest moment, the culmination of all his hopes, dreams and hard work. He was graduating from police academy at the top of his class. Angel, his friend for so long and now his sweetheart, was there to watch the ceremony and she also sang the national anthem. All of his family and friends were there to celebrate his accomplishment. The post-graduation euphoria came all too quickly to an abrupt end when Michael's car was sideswiped as he left the academy. His car lost control from the impact, and his body was helplessly flung to and fro until there was a jarring impact as the car hit a highway divider. Michael felt his face smash into the steering wheel and then the tearing, burning pain as the airbag belatedly deployed. When he finally struggled back to consciousness, he could hear people whispering that he was lucky to have survived, but when the doctor told him about his spinal cord injury and paralysis, he felt anything but lucky.

Dwayne T. Martin's psychological thriller novella, Deception, is gritty, intense and compelling. Michael's story is one the reader can't help but admire. His dedication and hard work finally paying off and culminating in his graduating at the top of his class and winning the love of the woman he had silently loved for so long. To see all of his dreams dashed in a moment is stark and moving. You can feel his anguish and shame as he feels everyone watching and judging as his powerless body is wheeled out of the hospital. Martin's story is credible and well-plotted, and his characters are very well-defined. I was particularly impressed with his action-packed descriptions of the warehouse fire and the combined heroism of Michael and his mentor, CPT Jenkin. Deception is most highly recommended.

Deception is a romance novella written by Dwayne T. Martin. Graduation from the Police Academy is a cadet’s happiest and proudest of days. With his best friend, Lucas, at his side, both Michael and Lucas had just become the newest recruits on the force. On his way home from the graduation ceremony, Michael tries to assist police in stopping a speeding vehicle, only to end up in a car accident which leaves him paralyzed. After months of painstaking physiotherapy, Michael is able to stand from his wheelchair and propose to the love of his life, Angel, who had been by his side and given him strength through his long recovery. The two take a short walk in a nearby park to celebrate their engagement, only to be accosted. Michael looks on helplessly, as Angel is shot and left for dead. As Angel fights for her life in hospital, Michael hunts down the shooter, who also happens to be the man who had driven the vehicle which had almost ended Michael’s life on graduation day. With Lucas by Michael’s side, they are about to apprehend the monster behind Michael and Angel’s life-threatening attacks, but nothing can prepare Michael for the shocking truth about to be revealed, leaving Michael, once again, fighting for his life.

Dwayne T. Martin’s incredible portrayal of a psychopath, determined to destroy Michael and his happiness, is most definitely an edge-of-your-seat read filled with suspense throughout. The number of characters in the story is kept to a minimum, making the story very easy to follow. The end of the story is left open, leaving the possibility for a follow-up to be released. This brings me great joy, as the shock and anger I felt while reading the pages towards the end left me wanting to see vengeance and retribution, at any cost. Michael and Angel had been through a lot together, as well as a long recovery for Michael – so much so, that he finds the strength to stand and eventually walk, against all odds. His love for Angel is so evident, deep and inspirational. When Angel was gunned down after such an arduous journey of recovery, I had to stop reading for a few moments, as the tragedy of it sank in. Deception is definitely a book for those who love the thrill of suspense, and who are up for a rollercoaster ride of drama, action, shock and tragedy, when bloody vengeance is the only way to stop the killer from striking again.

Deception is a nail-biting police thriller written by Dwayne T. Martin. Michael just graduated from the Police Academy with top honors. When tragedy strikes suddenly, his life is turned inside out and upside down. Before the tragedy, he had a perfect life, a beautiful woman who stayed by his side, and a supportive best friend. Left battered and broken, Michael must make a decision: lie down and die, or get up and fight? When everything turns against him, whom can he trust? With his fiancee's life being threatened, Michael decides to take matters into his own hands. Will he be able to stop the murderer before they kill again or will he be too late?

Deception by Dwayne T. Martin is a compelling and dramatic thriller novella. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book from the beginning all the way to the end. I like the fact that the author was very descriptive with his scenarios, and kept me, the reader, intrigued throughout the story. I wasn't sure how I felt about how abruptly the story ended, but I anticipate reading the sequel if there is a continuation of the series. I like how Michael had close friends in his life that loved him, and kept him from totally giving up. The intensity of the climax was very powerful and breathtaking; it kept me on the edge of my seat. The plot is well developed and takes the reader on a thrilling ride. I would recommend this book to adults over the age of eighteen due to reference to drug use.
