Deep Relaxation Through Mindfulness: 2019 Version by Robert Leihy is an inspiring book that discusses the theme of mindfulness and relaxation. It develops a new and refreshing approach to relaxation, explaining that it is not a form of distraction but a tool that can drive mindfulness and enable us to be more focused and to reach deeper levels of success. In this book, the author explains the benefits of relaxation and demonstrates how it is intrinsically linked to our craving for wellness and fulfillment. The book redefines relaxation and beyond the common notions we have on the subject to propose a path that allows readers to engage in meditation, to be present, and to develop a global view of situations happening in and around them.

This book offers tips on how to nurture a positive and strong attitude that accommodates all worldly circumstances, including experiences that are negative and how to have the skill of embracing existence without feeling alienated. This book is profound and filled with insights about life, being present in one’s self, and developing mindfulness. In a world that is fast-paced, where it is easy to get overwhelmed by the challenges and the activities related to work and life, this book teaches readers to find and keep their peace. I loved the wisdom in this book and found some lines to think about like: “A person is more tranquil if he sees himself as a part of everything rather than as alienated and at odds with it.” Deep Relaxation Through Mindfulness: 2019 Version develops a philosophy of mindfulness that inspires readers to get the best out of life without ever sacrificing what is essential to them. Robert Leihy writes in prose that is simple and in a style that is both reflective and engaging.

Deep Relaxation Through Mindfulness (2019 Version) by Robert Leihy is a discussion of the benefits of deep relaxation in our lives. Through chapters titled “Relaxation,” “A Global Worldview,” and “Daily Tranquility,” Leihy describes the feelings of well-being and contentment which accompany deep relaxation when it’s bolstered by a positive worldview and a virtuous lifestyle. An attitude of thankfulness, serenity, acquiescence, and tranquility alleviates anxiety over the future. What happens in the present need not fluster us either. On the contrary, we can better analyze otherwise stressful challenges in life with equanimity and reach thoughtful and satisfying conclusions from a relaxed state of mind. “When the benefits of a virtuous lifestyle,” Leihy writes, “combine with the feelings of contentment associated with deep relaxation, one’s approach to the world can be one of both pleasure and productive efficiency.”

In Deep Relaxation Through Mindfulness, Leihy makes the case for choosing a path leading to contentedness. For readers not familiar with either the ancient Buddhist roots or the modern secular practice of mindfulness, he relates it to Christian and traditional spiritual wisdom as well. Although the narrative is succinct, it’s packed with food for thought. We can make choices, he reminds us. We were created with free will and with minds that connect our sense of self to the everyday world. We can learn relaxation and practice it to brighten our lives and those of the people around us. It’s a message that can benefit many in our tumultuous world and perhaps help them veer away from the cliffs of depression and anxiety over which so many lives stumble these days. It can help us stay calm in the face of negative feelings and actions. Just listening to the news can be stressful enough, let alone the vitriol and contempt that can be directed at us for simply expressing an opinion on social media. A useful and timely read which can foster a better world for us all.

Deep Relaxation Through Mindfulness by Robert Leihy is an in-depth guide through the various stages of relaxation meant to assist anyone interested in attaining a deep sense of calm. Each chapter, Relaxation, GlobalWorldview, and Daily Tranquility, brings the reader closer and closer to developing the skills necessary to calm the mind and body at will and gain a new perspective on the way the two relate. This detailed, easy-to-read book is filled with many different techniques (as well as how to apply them) to show exactly how to defuse habitual responses to stressful situations that occur in one’s daily life.

Deep Relaxation Through Mindfulness by Robert Leihy is an excellent read for anyone wishing to learn how to relax. In traffic, at home, at work, in crowds, before a speech, in relationships…the philosophies within these pages are inspirational and very easy to understand. The book made me want to get started right away and share with a family member or friend. Who doesn’t want to be around relaxed people? The author did a great job of explaining the importance of the mind/body connection and the vital role each plays in the relaxation process. Each chapter was better than the last (all good though) in describing how each phase affects the next and why (which I loved). I highly recommend this book for many reasons but mainly because it’s well written, and it helps the world become a calmer, brighter, happier place. This was definitely my kind of read and I give it five wonderful stars!
