When I saw the collection of short stories, Delhi Yarns by author Nabaneeta Dangwal, I immediately snatched it up. I absolutely love, love, love stories that focus on or occur in India. Such a gorgeous and complex country, India almost has the ability to become a character of its own. And this lovely collection of stories did not disappoint. Each of the stories shares the setting of Delhi, but differs entirely in storyline, feeling and aim. From a very special Valentine’s Day to a young woman dealing with a family member with a chronic disability, from themes of abandonment to love, from a study of the two sides of Delhi, Old and New, to a look into the life of a homosexual man, these stories are each as fascinating as they are unique.

I enjoyed, enjoyed, enjoyed this book so much! One of the beauties of a collection of short stories is that there is a natural stopping place between each story, where you can set the book down and easily pick it up again. That is normally the case, anyway, but once I started Delhi Yarns I didn’t set it down until I was done. Each story kept me so engaged that I didn’t want it to end, and then I found that the next story was equally engrossing. The only issue I had with this book is that I wanted more stories! Nabaneeta Dangwal, I sincerely hope you are working on your next collection of shorts, and I hope that the focus is once again India. I, for one, will be eagerly watching for it!
