Meet Dolly who lives in a tiny house near a big forest in the storybook Dolly and the Dancing Squirrels by Colleen Baxter Sullivan. The animals living in the forest are all Dolly's friends and they are the only friends she has. Dolly's parents take care of the trees in the forest and Dolly loves dancing. One day Dolly put on music and went outside to dance. She was joined by a family of squirrels who started moving their bodies up and down. Dolly's mother had some nuts in the house and she gave them to her new friends. That night while sleeping, Dolly dreamed of her dancing squirrels who were dressed in bright red, green, blue, and yellow tutus. The next day Dolly's little friends were waiting for her and though her mother said they were coming for nuts, Dolly knew they were coming for the squirrel dance party. Dolly was very happy with her new dancing friends.

This delightful story captures the beautiful friendship and bond between Dolly and the family of squirrels who help her get rid of her loneliness in living near the forest. The illustrations are as charming as the story and the characters and they breathe life and color into the story. The story is simple but the friendship between the squirrels and Dolly will make all animal lovers happy and eager to make new animal friends and play with them. Dolly and the Dancing Squirrels is a good bedtime storybook and can be used in classrooms and school libraries for storytelling sessions. It can help children deal with their loneliness by making new friends, even if these happen to be the animals around them.
