Dori's Gift (a Mom's Choice Award Recipient) by Angie Wilson is the tale of Dori, a young girl who is celebrating her seventh birthday and hoping for a birthday present from her parents. The family live in the mountains and have to work hard every day so, despite it being her birthday, Dori still has to do her chores alongside her older sisters. Her brothers are allowed to go to school, but the girls must help with the day to day tasks at home. The girls are allowed to play with their dolls before supper, and are able to use their imaginations to have fun. By the end of the day, Dori receives her present which is better than she hoped for. A beautifully carved box, which her father made in his workshop, that contains a dulcimer. Dori entertains her family by singing songs for them.

Angie Wilson has created a charming book with Dori's Gift. The illustrations are colorful and attractive for children. The story shows a young girl living a simple life, who doesn't have the luxury of receiving expensive presents like a lot of kids today, but she is grateful for what she does have. This shows children humility and that sometimes the simplest gifts are the most heartfelt. I think this will do well on the market and could be a great book for children when it comes to explaining to them how to appreciate what they have, especially when parents cannot afford to buy them really expensive gifts.
