Seeliyah's peaceful life changes forever when the beautiful, strange Aureen confronts her father, Tresdale, to return to Draco Keep – an ancient stronghold of the dragon nation – and stop Duk Flar, the evil red dragon that intends to launch a war against all the other races. Tresdale, a human who was once a powerful dragon, refuses to go. However, Seeliyah has dragon blood running through her veins and she embarks on a journey to the west in her father’s stead. Accompanied by her childhood friend Colvin, Aureen, and dwarf brothers Dalvo and Farad, Seeliyah must learn the truth about her family's past while stopping Duk Flar’s plan.

Michael Noss's Dragon Born is an epic fantasy where its world building is a familiar yet brilliant one for fans of the genre; elves, dwarves, orcs, magic, and my favorite fantasy creatures, dragons. Noss does a good job with the narration which ever so subtly drew me in to keep turning the pages. Seeliyah’s quest is thoroughly absorbing and it was hard for me to stop reading. I also admire the way Noss connected each character, particularly Colvin, Dalvo, and Farad through their background story, where dragons from their past were foes instead of allies. Seeliyah’s arrival at Draco Keep and her fascinating transformation to her dragon form is one of the best moments in the story.

That said, there are some parts that could be more polished, which would make the storytelling more structured and produce a better plot development. Overall, Dragon Born is not without flaws but it has great action, great characters, and mythical creatures to make sure this story passed all the prerequisites of an enjoyable and engaging epic fantasy.
