Drasine is the third book in the WhipEye Chronicles, written by Geoffrey Saign. After almost losing their parents one year earlier, Samantha and her neighbor, Jake – child guardians of the sacred staff, WhipEye – are attacked by new, unknown enemies. The children are instructed to find and deliver Drasine to smugglers within 24 hours. If they fail, they will pay with Jake’s life. On their way to seek out Drasine, Sam and Jake find themselves amongst old friends of KiraKu and, although grateful to return to a place which they affectionately call home, time is against them. They quickly discover that steady alliances are not what they used to be, with each act of betrayal against them hitting hard. Jake and Sam must figure out who they can trust before time runs out. When they finally discover the truth about Drasine, however, they have to make the hardest choice of their lives – to protect the species of an entire planet - or to save a friend’s life.

Geoffrey Saign delivers yet another home run, as the WhipEye Chronicles continue in such spectacular fashion. With a peaceful, yet cautious beginning, the action starts soon after, with each challenge reaching new heights, whilst posing such impossible goals. Some friendly old faces appear in the third installment, along with many new and exciting ones. Geoffrey’s writing style quickly envelops the reader in an intoxicating, thrilling shroud of fun, action, adventure and suspense – all of which leave you on the edge of your seat. Drasine links many characters of past volumes together, ensuring no loose ends remain. Although this is a good thing, I very much look forward to (and am hoping for) the next installment of the WhipEye Chronicles to be released. The friendships between characters are even more inspiring than those of the Harry Potter series, all of which surprise and inspire the reader at every turn. I recommend Drasine and the rest of the WhipEye Chronicles to young readers who love to take adventurous journeys into the unknown.
