Dueling Moons: A Pat Wyatt Novel, Volume 2 is a contemporary paranormal fantasy written by Laura Del. While this is the second book in the series, the author gives enough background material for it to be read as a stand-alone novel. Pat and her werewolf lover, Mike, have moved into a small apartment near New Orleans, Louisiana. It's a far cry from the Hamptons estate where Pat lived with her vampire husband, Samuel Satane, but she's determined to keep as much distance as possible between her and the husband who attempted to turn her into one of the undead. Pat is a freelance writer who works for a New York magazine, and Mike, an attorney, is currently unemployed. To help cover their expenses, Pat's employer recommended her to another publisher, Elliot Sagmore, who seems to be more trouble than the job is worth.

Laura Del's paranormal fantasy, Dueling Moons, features a refreshingly, if somewhat alarmingly, unique heroine who is a natural alpha with just a bit of a mean streak. It gets her into some hot water with vampires and the other supernatural creatures she comes into contact with, but Pat Wyatt seems to know exactly what to do to stay on top of almost every situation. Her lover, Mike, often bears the brunt of her domineering side, but it is what it is, and he seems content with his role in their relationship. Del's story is peopled with all sorts of supernaturals and it's great fun to see how they interact with the ex-wife of the vampire. I had a marvelous time reading Dueling Moons. I especially liked Del's werewolf clan, and the Big Bears Diner scenes. I hadn't read the first book in this series before reading this one and plan on doing so now. Dueling Moons is filled with satisfying and highly enjoyable action, suspense and even some fancy work with swords, and it's highly recommended.
