After an absence of 15 years, Dane Carlisle decides it is time to go home and mend fences with his brother, Jonah, in Eclipse Lake by Mae Clair. Jonah had basically raised Dane, who ended up becoming the small Pennsylvania town’s bad boy. Some time in jail and a chance encounter with a home security specialist changed Dane’s way of life and gave him a new outlook on life - and a chance which included a great job, a wonderful wife and an adopted son. Tragedy took Alicia away, but her last request was for Dane to come to terms with his past. Taking Jesse, his son, back to his home town, proves to be quite a struggle since Jonah is not at all forgiving and the sheriff still holds a grudge.

When an old mystery surfaces that draws everyone together, pointing fingers at Dane, the dynamics begin to change as Jesse sticks up for his father, along with a photojournalist who is becoming quite close to Dane. Even though Dane has made a fortune and spends a lot of time and money helping people, that doesn’t count for much with most people at Eclipse Lake. What happens is a great surprise and well worth reading every page to find out.

Beautiful and haunting descriptions of the setting and in depth character development add to the exciting action and double plot of Eclipse Lake by Mae Clair. If you enjoy a wide variety of emotions and the highs and lows that go along with people coming to terms with hurtful events from the past, this is definitely the perfect story for you. Working things out is not easy, but realistic as the characters interact and discover just how deep family ties go. Dane and Ellie find each other within the complexities of the action and their romance is gentle and healing for them both. The mystery is smoothly woven throughout the story and the outcome provides a shock no one sees coming. Eclipse Lake is a terrific story with plenty of character depth and intriguing pieces to the mystery. Well done! I highly recommend Eclipse Lake as a satisfying and engaging read.
