Elite and True (Leadership Lessons Inspired by the US Navy) by James L. Barnhart is a non-fiction business and finance book that would appeal most to a diverse audience of young adults and adults interested in becoming more productive in their personal and/or professional lives. James Barnhart’s life in the US Navy’s Officer Candidate School, Nuclear Power School, and submarine service served to give him the experiences and insight to share with those looking to improve their own productivity and leadership. Barnhart’s experiences are condensed and interspersed with leadership wisdom born from the author’s own life, such as the difference between leadership and management. Are you ready to develop your own leadership capabilities?

Elite and True (Leadership Lessons Inspired by the US Navy) by James L. Barnhart is a well-written book that is a gold mine of leadership information. I really liked the way the book was not one of those self-help books made up of boring statistics and bullet lists, but instead inspired me to want to learn how to become a better leader. I liked the way the author wove together his own learning and experiences from his time in the Navy and from his time as a corporate manager. The diversity of these experiences kept me interested and motivated to keep reading and learning. Overall, I am delighted I took the time to read this book as I feel that applying what I learned in my professional life will lead to me being more productive and hopefully even earning a promotion!
