Author Biography

Barbara Venkataraman is an attorney and mediator specializing in family law and debt collection.

She is the author of the award-winning Jamie Quinn Cozy Mystery series, as well as "Teatime with Mrs. Grammar Person", and three books of humorous essays: "I'm Not Talking about You, Of Course"; "A Trip to the Hardware Store & Other Calamities"; and "A Smidge of Crazy", from her Quirky Essays for Quirky People series. Her books have won numerous awards including three-time winner of the “Indie Book of the Day” Award, First Place in the 2016 Chanticleer Murder & Mayhem Mystery Writing Competition, Honorable Mention in the Readers’ Favorite Contest for Non-Fiction Humor, and Finalist, 2017 Kindle Book Awards. Here newest book is a non-fiction memoir she co-authored with her son about social justice and activism.

Engaged In Danger (A Jamie Quinn Mystery) by Barbara Venkataraman is an exciting sleuth mystery novel set in eastern Florida. Jamie Quinn practices family law in her hometown of Hollywood, Florida. Being a one-woman office handling cases for middle-class domestic issues, Jamie is surprised when a well-dressed woman comes in for an appointment. The woman wants to divorce her husband of thirty-five years, but none of the high-powered law offices will take her case. Her husband is an unethical lawyer with pull who is rumored to have ties to the Russian mob. Added to that, he has been recently appointed to the Florida Commission on Ethics. Despite her misgivings, Jamie teams up with her best friend, Grace, also an attorney, and takes the case. As soon as Jamie and Grace meet with their team, complications arise. Will Jamie and Grace be able to overcome them, or will they become victims of a ruthless killer?

There are many exciting twists and turns in Barbara Venkataraman's thrilling sleuth mystery novel, Engaged In Danger. It is a fast paced story with a compelling plot filled with intriguing subplots threading through the storyline. The interesting characters and dilemmas are cleverly woven together to form a sensational storyline. Jamie is likable and it is easy to relate to the protagonist. She has worries and inhibitions that give her character a realistic human aspect. I enjoyed meeting her and am looking forward to reading her future exploits. Even though this is one in a series of Jamie Quinn mysteries, it is a great standalone. This is a fantastic sleuth mystery that won't disappoint fans who enjoy unraveling mysteries!
