Authors Rick and Brenda Redner deal with a very neglected subject in our world today, one in which many people are living with questions and few answers. In their book entitled Everything You Never Wanted To Know About Erectile Dysfunction and Penile Implants, they help the reader deal with something that is an embarrassing and difficult subject for many. They deal with more than just facts and figures as they have dealt with these issues personally within their own marriage, seeking the answers to the difficulties that it presented to them. There are many stories of others who have had similar circumstances, and how they have had to deal with their own situations, many times not knowing where to turn for help or guidance.

Rick and Brenda are to be commended for dealing with these issues and being willing to share their own experiences so others can find help and healing within their own individual lives as well as their marriage. They share their faith and how that is tried and developed during this difficult journey. They not only discuss what the husband feels and experiences, but they also share what the wife is dealing with, and how it impacts her life. One of the finest features in the book is the questions that are asked at the end of each chapter. This allows the reader to explore deeper and find the answers they are looking for within their individual lives. The authors deal with many questions, giving answers that provide great wisdom and insight. Even the glossary, notes and index are fantastic in making this a great reference book, and one that could be life/marriage changing for a couple experiencing these issues. Excellent book on a very difficult subject.

Living with the shame and stigma of erectile dysfunction is one of the most trying ordeals that any man can go through. However, the condition does not just affect men, but their partners too. Erectile dysfunction is a very sensitive subject that is often discussed in hushed voices, if at all, leaving many to suffer in silence. In their very enlightening and deeply moving book titled Everything You Never Wanted to Know about Erectile Dysfunction and Penile Implants, Rick and Brenda Redner share their emotional and trying journey dealing with erectile dysfunction. The book gives all-round insight into the subject including the causes, the ordeal of dealing with impotence, the strain it puts on relationships, the courage to seek medical help, choosing your course of treatment, and the mental awareness needed to deal with it all so you can begin the journey to recovery. Rick Redner shares deeply intimate details of his battle with ED and how he and his wife supported each other through it all.

Clearly revealed in Everything You Never Wanted to Know about Erectile Dysfunction and Penile Implants, dealing with erectile dysfunction is not just about the torment of losing one's manhood but the 'shame' and frustration that comes with it. The idea of penile implants might seem like a myth to many - personally my first knowledge of penile implants came from the medical drama Grey's Anatomy - but it is one that will put an end to suffering for many men. Many men suffer silently, thinking that erectile dysfunction is the end to one's sex life and that it is a permanent condition. Well, Rick Redner is living proof that you are wrong on both counts. This book is more than just facts about erectile dysfunction - it is a detailed personal journey of dealing with the condition and how to overcome it with the help of a penile implant. Reading Rick and Brenda's story has been very eye-opening. It is definitely a worthy read for any man struggling with ED and for couples looking to support each other through it all so they can put intimacy back into their relationship.

A Survivor

Rick Redner’s book is the best of it kind, and possibly the only one. Excellent reading for any man who is dealing with Erectile Dysfunction issues, is considering a penile implant, or has already gone through the procedure. Well documented, carefully written, and in language that can be easily understood by the lay person. It doesn’t feel like you’re reading a medical textbook. The book covers many of the concerns that men experience when dealing with ED: physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The author provides alternatives to handling the questions that can plague men whether they’ve had prostate surgery, or not. He offers up personal experiences that can be helpful in decision-making and are relatable to men dealing with similar considerations. His technique is honest and forthcoming. I felt like I was having a conversation with the man, as well as with his wife who submits her own opinions to the matter at hand. The book offers many good examples of how men feel after losing the ability to get an erection naturally, and the way these feelings can affect relationships. The book offers support and offers online suggestions that men can check out to further research their individual cases. -A Survivor

Self Publishing Review

Everything You Never Wanted to Know About Erectile Dysfunction and Penile Implants by Rick and Brenda Redner is an informative and important book.
There are certain books that may be uncomfortable to pick up in a bookstore, or leave lying about on your coffee table, even if their subject matter is completely normal, and something that affects tens of millions of men around the world. Everything You Never Wanted to Know About Erectile Dysfunction and Penile Implants has a bold title that leaves little mystery as to the subject matter, but readers might be surprised by the value and insightful wisdom offered within this book’s pages.
Jointly written by Rick and his wife, a registered nurse, this book tells their story living through the extreme highs and lows of prostate cancer, survival, surgery, impotence, Erectile Dysfunction (ED) and eventually Penile Implants. While the subject matter may make some men quiver, the fact is that more than 200,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year, and more than 30 million men suffer from some form of Erectile Dysfunction – in the United States alone! As a man who walked through the fire alongside his wife, overcoming the undeniable difficulties and emotional insecurities associated with such a series of events, Rick Redner has a unique perspective coupled with a sharp and honest pen.
Rather than focusing solely on Rick Redner’s personal experience, the deep research into the subject is clearly apparent, and the authors write with an authority and surety that lends credibility almost immediately. The pace of the text is patient and encouraging, but not condescending or shame-inducing in any way. Despite the Rick Redner’s surgical choice to remedy his ED, this book does not attempt to sway any opinions or tell readers the “right” thing to do. Instead, it presents all arguments and perspectives, making the content accessible and engaging for a wide range of consumers, from men concerned with the future of their sexual health to those currently wrestling with serious ED issues.
Each chapter closes with a series of simple questions that allows for personal reflection on the content of each section, driving home some of the important points. These brief reviews also stressed actions or options that readers can take, rather than just blindly pushing forward into the next subject or topic. The book is clearly written with the intention of helping other people in mind. The thorough detail reveals the authors’ sincere passion and interest in the subject, given how significantly it changed their lives. What readers are left with is a sincere, insightful and supportive guide for couples and individual men who are facing similar struggles with these issues.
Part self-help book, part memoir and part specialized health guide, Everything You Never Wanted to Know About Erectile Dysfunction and Penile Implants attempts to normalize a common condition, and remove the embarrassment and shame that so often accompanies it. The writing is striking in its frank, delicate handling of complex emotions, and a positive attitude, revealing a true sensitivity within the authors and an inherent desire to write for the benefit of others.
The chapters were well organized and neatly edited, making it possible to pick up this book at any point in your journey and find something relevant to your current struggles or concerns. That said, the order of content also makes it function as a “start to finish” type guide, and the personal anecdotes mixed with straightforward advice and wisdom give the book a distinctly narrative feel. Rick Redner and his wife are talented writers and courageous survivors who are willing to share their experiences and readers should find value within them.
