"Fallen" by Karin Slaughter is a fast paced thriller. I’ve been a fan of Slaughter for quite sometime. She has a unique way of presenting her characters. Sara Linton is a doctor and she worked closely with her deceased husband as a coroner. Slaughter has created a series surrounding Sara Linton. We have watched her mature, face pain, fall in love and face danger. One of the great things about Slaughter’s series is the way she weaves in Linton without making her the main character. In "Fallen", Linton is playing a secondary but very necessary character. We witness Sara starting to fall in love again after losing her beloved husband. She does seem to have a thing for men in uniform. However, the plot revolves around Faith Mitchell, a police officer, single mother and strong character. Faith attempts to reach her mother by phone but there is no answer. Instinctively Faith knows something is wrong. She arrives home to discover blood and her infant daughter hidden in a locked storage shed. Then all hell breaks loose. But where is Faith’s mother. Is she a dirt cop on the run or a victim?

This review is of the audio format. The reader’s voice was perfect. I will definitely look for more books read by Sharon Cochran. There are 11 CDs in this set.

Slaughter has a gift for allowing the tension to build. We see it easing off with a secondary plot and then we jump right to the main fray of the action again. She slowly brings out important information about each character. By slowly doing this she allows the reader to question motives and be involved in the plot. This also allows the action to start out at the beginning of the book. Often authors feel they have to totally develop a character before they can develop the plot but Slaughter knows they must go hand in hand. Great job, Ms Slaughter! I look forward to her next installment.
