Some friendships last a lifetime, changing lives along the way. Feathers at My Feet: A Memoir of Enduring Friendship is the true story of a bond just like that. Art teacher and author Barbara Pearson knew about fellow artist and activist Phyllis Bosco long before they met in 1980. A longstanding celebrity in Barbara's hometown of Tallahassee, Florida, Phyllis was a free-spirited woman well-known for her protests against the Vietnam War and artistic endeavors. Over the decades, the two developed a close camaraderie and, together with a clique of like-minded friends, called themselves the "Dancing Girls." Tired of failed relationships and broken marriages, Barbara and Phyllis decided to spend their retirement years together and bought a beach house in Florida. Everything did not go according to plan, but after a period of estrangement, tragedy brought the two friends together once again.

A heartwarming tale of companionship that showcases the impact friends have on each other throughout their lives, Feathers at My Feet is a moving memoir that hits all the right notes. Barbara Pearson gives an unfiltered account of her life and friendship with artist Phyllis Bosco, celebrating a woman whose influence on others lasted decades and changed the course of many lives. The narrative is doused in nostalgia, light-hearted humor, and emotional passages that will most definitely pull at your heartstrings. Told using a writing style that feels intimate and personal, Barbara's story will move readers to reminisce about the times spent with their friends. I found it relatable and highly recommend it.

Intricately woven, delicate, yet filled with strong, feministic principles, Feathers At My Feet is a heartwarming and inspiring memoir of how humans can be connected in a multitude of ways, both physical and spiritual. The enduring friendship between Phyllis and Barbara is an admirable example of how to love in a steadfast, simple form that eclipses judgment and differences to create a relationship filled with a regular celebration of life’s art and beauty, even through the most difficult of circumstances. This colorful memoir is sure to evoke vibrant remembrances of your own friendships throughout the years, and likewise be a resounding reminder to hold those dear close at every opportunity.

This is a wonderfully written story about friendship and perseverance. It is a well narrated amazing physical and emotional journey that makes you feel as if you were there experiencing it. I finished it in less than 24 hours because I couldn't put it down! I highly recommend!

As I read this memoir, I began to understand how certain friendships last through the good times and bad. It also opened my eyes to how important it is to have friends in your life who will laugh with you, cry with you, and stay with you through thick and thin. The author had that enduring, lasting relationship with her friend. Her narrative is filled with humor as well as emotion that was so heartwarming. I find her writing quite compelling and it makes me realize how important it is to value what and whom you have in your life.

This memoir is a beautiful tribute to the power of friendship. It's a trip. An experience. These women and their friendships remind me of the strength, humor, and interdependence of the cast of Steel Magnolias.

I was drawn in and immersed in the world of Phyllis and Barbara and their Dancing Girls. The parties, the tears, the innumerable ways they showed up for each other. It's playful and fun, but also very real, profound, and relatable.

This memoir is a quick read, but a powerful one. Even months after reading it, several images stick in my head: the cake fight, the crew swooping in with the shamama, the tally marks on the wall, and of course, the incredible party at the end (that's all I can say without spoiling!).

I love this book and the very real friendship it chronicles. I'm so glad both exist.

This book was a gift to me in many ways. The writing was touching and compelling, creating a feeling of being in a conversation with the author. Beautifully written about friendship through time, victories, challenges and letting go. One to be savored and re-read for the hidden treasures that I may have missed on the first read!

Feathers At My Feet is the tender and heart-rending story of the ups and downs of friendship, loss, and acceptance. The beautifully written prose illuminates the passing decades of two women’s lives, their fondness for one another, their mutual search for expression, their kindred tribe of “Dancing Girls” and the strength and enduring power of their bond. Intimate, yet universal in its scope; it is the story of the resiliency of the human spirit. A sparkling delight.

Barbara Pearson’s lovely memoir, “Feathers at My Feet,” about her deep, loving friendship with Phyllis, drew me in from the start. I felt like I got to live their joys, sorrows, and adventures alongside them. Thanks to Barbara’s beautiful words, Phyllis’ legacy lives on. Remarkably, the day after I finished the book, I chanced upon a feather at my feet while on a walk, letting me know that Phyllis acknowledged that I now knew her as well. This book left me wanting more from this author.

As it says in the book synopsis, Feathers at my Feet is truly a beautiful memoir of a decades-long friendship of two women who ultimately rely on each other through all the stumbling blocks of life and who, with their like-minded friends, learn to embrace living.

Upon a second reading, however, what I noticed the most was Barbara Pearson’s ability to bring to light through her poignant descriptions a portrait of old Florida – one that no longer seems to exist in our present rushed society.

Could this kind of friendship blossom today? I wonder.

This book made me laugh and it made me cry – both times. It is a testament to the author that she allows us to join her on her life’s journey. The book is a gift.

Reading “Feathers at my Feet”, transported me back to a period in life where women’s friendships were like a thread that held us all together while going through some of life’s most difficult - and joyful moments - love, marriage, divorce, childbirth, loss, heartache. Sensitively written and so relatable. Don’t wait. Buy it today and experience a whole range of emotions as you turn the pages of this beautiful memoir!

Feathers at My Feet by Barbara Pearson is a moving and inspiring memoir of friendships that last a lifetime. If life is a journey, Pearson has been truly blessed to road trip through it with the indomitable Phyllis Bosco and their group of Dancing Girls, and I loved getting to ride along with them.

The book follows the author as she meets local celebrity artist and walking definition of "free spirit" Phyllis and has her life changed by the deep and lasting friendship that develops. Feathers at My Feet paints a beautifully honest picture of friendship. The cocktails, the feather boas, the laughter and the lazy, sun kissed Florida afternoons spent poolside with friends. As well as the inevitable change, distance, disappoints and tragedies that come with being human. They're all here, and the result is a relatable and inspiring story of true friendship.

Feathers at My Feet is a quick but moving read, and will have you looking to form your own group of Dancing Girls by the end.

I absolutely loved this tale of the friendship between two women as they grew together in life and love. Written with honesty and poignancy, author Barbara Pearson shares her friend Phyllis with us. I read this book in one sitting and felt a part of their journey the entire time. This powerful memoir should spark many meaningful conversations about the strength and complexity of female friendships. I can't wait to share it with others.

Feathers at My Feet shows the ups and downs and arounds of a decades-long friendship and what it truly means to show up for a friend. Debut memoirist Barbara Pearson shares the beautiful story of her friendship with artist Phyllis Bosco starting in Florida in the 1980s. Through the lens of enduring friendship, we learn the story of this chapter in Pearson’s life, which includes a journey from Tallahassee to Atlanta with a detour to Apalachicola. Parties, a ghost, art projects, road trips, and life-changing bad news round out the story, which gives new meaning to the concept of “Friends Forever.”
