Fractals is a young adult, urban fantasy by Larry Buenafe, a mesmerizing conclusion to the Ferdie and The Seven trilogy. In this entry, Ferdie and his friends, including Marsh-dog, are poised to meet with enemies, this time deadlier than anything they have encountered before. The enemy is determined to sink the world, and their tactics — including acts of terrorism — are more cunning and troubling now than ever. Follow these characters as they race against time to rescue the world. The problem is: Can they muster up enough courage to face what lies ahead and will luck be on their side, given their limited resources?

Here is a story with a great setting and issues that reflect some of the problems faced by contemporary society. The story deals with terrorism and the struggle between good and evil. I loved the author’s creativity in imagining an adversary that readers will hate, and heroes they will root for — genuinely flawed and real. Larry Buenafe is a great storyteller and he has the gift of making readers fall for his characters. The story features twists and turns that readers won't see coming and the narrow escapes are designed to surprise readers and keep them interested in the narrative. The story combines humor with contrast to build character and plot points and deepen the reader’s interest. It is fast-paced and the reader gets emotionally involved as they follow the focused scenes and the crisp writing from one gripping page to the next. Fractals is a story of courage and creativity, an inspiring tale conveying the message that good always triumphs over evil.
