Fet Makes a Promise by Thomas Panis is a children’s picture book that delivers an impactful message to readers of all ages. It’s a story about a donkey named Fet who is trying to do what he can for his friends who need help. He makes big promises. The narration is smart and quick. The artwork was created by Adelia Gibadullina and brings life to the characters in brilliantly rich colors. The animals’ expressions especially add a great deal of charm to the story and charge the atmosphere with an easygoing kind of air. That is until Fet can’t come through for them, and the cadence of the story shifts to something that is a bit crestfallen.

Thomas Panis’ Fet Makes a Promise teaches readers a valuable lesson and one that we all learn eventually at one point or another. To see it expressed so well in a children’s book gets the message home more effectively. What drew me to this book at first was the cover and the intriguing title. I honestly didn’t see it going in the direction that it eventually took. For a children’s book to surprise you as an adult, well, that is exactly the kind of book that you will be excited to read and share with those around you. Make yourself a promise and be sure to read this tale.
