Author Biography

I am a wife, mother, grandmother and--gulp--a great-grandmother, roles I fill that keep life full of challenges and nourishing moments, laughter and tears. I am also a woman of faith, faith hammered out on the anvil of adversity-- faith that defines me and gives life meaning and purpose.
Because I grew up in rural USA, I learned to love reading as it vicariously provided endless hours of entertainment and adventure. I spent a lot of time creating wonderful fantasies in my mind, too!

"Finding Redemption in Everyday Life" by Lela Gillow Buchanan will bless many people. In the Introduction Buchanan speaks candidly about her doubts, her despair and her desire to stop hurting. She reminds me of one point of my life. Her words are descriptive of the point I have in mind: “temporary paralysis.” She reminds us that suffering is part of life; it is not a punishment from God, but it is “divine opportunities for inner growth.” What Ms Buchanan is describing is a journey of self-discovery that we must each take as individuals. The prize at the end of the journey is redemption and true joy. Joy is what keeps us calm in the midst of a storm; joy comes from within. Buchanan has taken the tragedies of life like 9/11/01 and searched for the redemption with in it. She has also taken the mundane parts of life and found that special place of joy from within. The chapter titled 'The Handle' demonstrates the joy from the mundane and how God cares about every aspect of our life and how no problem is too large or too small. It clearly demonstrates how much God loves her. Buchanan shares much about her life with her husband Cecil.

"Finding Redemption in Everyday Life" is a heartwarming book. Lela Gillow Buchanan is a talented author. Her essays are well-organized taking the reader through her journey to self awareness and a closer walk with the Lord. Women everywhere will find courage, encouragement and hope through her writings. Kudos to Ms Buchanan.
