Finding Your Inner Will is a nonfiction inspirational self-help book written by Terence Simmons. Simmons found that his impetus to harness his willpower stemmed from his reaction to the untimely death of his younger brother. That tragedy initially propelled him into destructive avenues -- thoughts of revenge and anger -- but then he got past that and, through prayer, hard work and learning, he began to focus those strong feelings into his will to succeed. Simmons shows, through his own example, how excess can actually impede your progress, and cautions that the reader take things at a rational and measured pace. He suggests that one actually visualize what it is you want out of life, your goals and dreams, and then he provides concrete ways to help you adjust your life from what it is now into a higher functioning level capable of achieving those goals.

Terence Simmons’s nonfiction inspirational self-help book, Finding Your Inner Will, is filled with practical and workable ideas that are designed to help the reader identify their desires and then act to achieve them. He shares his own schedules for working out, advancing his professional knowledge and making the most of the available time in each day. Most readers will sheepishly react, as I did, to the author’s disciplined restrictions of entertainment to one hour a day, and find that perhaps they are not quite as driven as he is, but overall I found many of his ideas to be quite useful, and have already incorporated a few into my daily routine. Finding Your Inner Will is well written, and the author’s conversational style makes it feel as though he’s right there with you and personally acting as your coach. This refreshingly different self-help book is highly recommended.

Finding Your Inner Will by Terence Simmons was very inspiring. I usually find self-help books boring and a little too "know it all." However, I enjoyed this one and found the advice Simmons gave very useful. I chose to read Finding Your Inner Will because lately I have been lacking willpower due to certain events in my life. I was not sure what to expect when I started reading it. I was pleasantly surprised over how much I liked the book. I thought Simmons came off as helpful and did not sound like a "know it all." The advice he gives is good and helpful.

I liked that Simmons used examples from his own life in the book. I also felt that certain parts of the book spoke to me. When Simmons wrote “revenge can catapult negativity into your life and make things much worse than they are,” it made me stop and think. This statement is very true and often revenge does make things worse. I definitely will remember this any time I have the urge to take revenge. Simmons also gained my respect for not giving in to peer pressure and getting a tattoo or piercing his ear. Keeping promises to oneself is something that is hard to do. Overall, I think that this book did help me and pushed me in the right direction with getting my willpower back. I am glad to have read it. I recommend reading this book if your willpower needs a boost. I hope to read more of Simmons’ work in the future.
