Flashbulb Memories by John Kemp is a poignant love story taking place during World War II. Jack wakes up in a hospital, suffering with amnesia, and discovers that he has lost an arm. Lucy is the nurse who is sitting by his side when he comes out of the coma, and lovingly and tenderly cares for both his medical and emotional needs. Jack quickly falls in love with Lucy and believes her to be his special angel - it is evident that Lucy also has feelings for Jack. The only thing Jack has to connect him to his past is a bag with a few of his belongings and a picture of a very beautiful woman with an inscription on the back. When Jack is finally ready to leave the hospital, he hopes to somehow continue his loving friendship with Lucy and remember who the mystery woman might be. He soon finds himself searching for clues of his past; along with help from his new best friend, Harry. Jack and Harry travel around the English countryside, sharing adventures and investigating old memories and making new ones. The story takes Jack slowly back, giving him glimpses of his past life and hope for his future.

Flashbulb Memories will have you in tears and will have you shouting for joy. I really felt both Jack and Lucy’s emotions and it was very hard to put the book down until I was able to know both the past and the future outlook for Jack and Lucy. John Kemp has done a marvelous job of writing this novella with beautiful feeling and insight. I really enjoyed Flashbulb Memories and highly recommend it.
