For His Eyes Only: A Devotional Workbook & Prayer Guide for Husbands by John Salmon Ph.D is a useful book for husbands, one which guides them to be the ideal partner in their marriage, just as Christ loved his bride, the Church. As men begin their journey with their wives, the author advises them to pray, which will give them the opportunity to get closer to God. Prayers are helpful in healing and also in allowing God to change you. The book gives practical tips and also has questions and answers that will help men to incorporate God's plans for them into their daily lives.

A man must have independence to achieve a happy and healthy married life. He should also leave his home physically and emotionally to form a healthy and lasting bond with the wife. All the tips, advice and techniques in the book are uplifting and motivational and can be put into practice without much difficulty. The book helps in strengthening the bond in married life and shows men how to appreciate their wives and treat them like diamonds. A husband's positive behavior can change a relationship for the better and the wife will slowly change to become the type of wife he is looking for. When husbands and wives learn to cherish each other, it shows the signs of a healthy and happy marriage. Wives should be treasured - this forms the essence of the book and all the content points towards that one thought.

John Salmon’s concise workbook, For His Eyes Only, is filled with the kind of straightforward tips that every man needs to succeed in his marriage. What man doesn’t like a clear plan laid out in short chapters with helpful application exercises in each one? But don’t be fooled by the book’s simple format. John’s practical suggestions come from a deep spiritual place and will drive the attentive reader to his knees in prayer, recognizing his need for power beyond himself. Coming out of John’s years in the counseling office with hundreds of men who are failing or feel like they’re failing in this most important relationship, John shows us how to clean our side of the street and remember how to receive our wives as the amazing gifts that they are to us and to our families. Practical, not preachy. Told by a guy like us who’s on the same journey, has made the same mistakes, and who is shining a light on a path forward that we all need so much.

John Salmon has done it again! His devotional workbook, For His Eyes Only, is a wonderful devotional tool for any husband and father. John’s style explains the scriptures, assisting men to meditate on God’s word while also giving them practical tips on how “to do” the scriptures in daily life. Like John, this guide is graciously powerful. I love this guide and recommend it to all the families at our fellowship.

Every man struggles to become a strong support system for his wife; and too many of us attempt to do that alone. By alone I mean without the power and guidance of prayer. John Salmon’s prayer guide, For His Eyes Only, offers the structure and encouragement men need to start or strengthen their work at home. Husbands need to pray and this book is a great guide.

This book is subtitled a “Devotional Workbook and Prayer Guide for Husbands”. It is that and more. Each chapter has a few questions that will help any husband put into practice the principle embodied in that chapter. There are prayers that summarize each chapter and help the reader put into practice the main focus of that chapter. These are great tools to help a husband grow in his relationship with his wife.
The book is chock-full of practical ideas as well and is written in an engaging, personable manner that any husband will appreciate.
Perhaps the greatest strength of the book is more subtle. It acknowledges that the greatest asset a wife has in becoming a better wife is a strong, compassionate, loving husband. As the husband intentionally prays for his wife and behaves positively toward his wife he will become more and more the husband she needs and she likely will respond by becoming more and more the wife he longs for.

I received an early copy of this book for my unbiased review. I have been completing it as a daily devotional and I can truly say that after a week of the devotional I am very impressed at the content and the message. It takes a different view on being a husband and truly treasuring your wife.It is not your standard "be a man" diatribe.
