For The Love of Ash is the story of Maggie and Luke. Maggie is a former party girl who was granted custody of her young brother after the death of their parents. Maggie is determined to make a good life for her and Asher by finishing college and becoming a teacher. Her ultimate goal is to be the best guardian possible and let Asher enjoy life and do the thing he loves most; play hockey. Luke is in a similar situation, having moved home to protect his siblings from his dad’s violent hand. He’s struggling to balance his life as a student, teacher and protector, but this is where he meets Maggie. Taylor Lavati does a great job, especially when Luke and Maggie meet, of showing the chemistry between them but also their reluctance to purse a relationship. It makes for a layered story and Luke’s unwillingness to give up makes the story great.

What I love most about For The Love of Ash is that these young people are so deeply committed to their siblings, and they work hard to make life better for them. That aspect was touching and it gave me great respect for Luke and Maggie. Beyond that I loved them together and Taylor Lavati did a great job of their initial bickering and the flirty banter that came afterwards. This is a love story that didn’t come easily, but the challenges they faced made their coming together even more rewarding. I thought at times Asher acted a bit too mature for his nine years, but he was suitably adorable and you could see that Maggie was a great guardian for him. Watching these two young characters come into their own in life and love was emotional and, despite the few times they acted their ages, they were loyal and fun and giving.
