For the Love of Laxmi: Everyday Desi Biases and the Imprints They Leave speaks about families in a contemporary way, with amusing content. The story begins with a family photo on the couch, a moment we've all been through, where all the relatives want to express different opinions on different topics. From there, we can identify with the characters. Eventually, we are shown moments in Laxmi’s life, from when she is a baby to her entering college. We see familiar situations where Laxmi has honest answers that have passed through the minds of all, but that we have not dared to express. This is a book that both children and adults will enjoy as Bijal Shah shares information on how to develop a better relationship between parents and children.

For the Love of Laxmi is written with a marvelous sense of humor which I enjoyed because it is easy to relate to the situations. The best part is that it is full of positive messages, such as not being influenced by the words of others or knowing how to act in real-life situations. The book will encourage children to express themselves freely about their feelings, being a perfect example that both children and parents can learn from. The illustrations are adorable and with gorgeous colors that catch the attention of young readers. Bijal Shah shows that despite their differences, family members are always important, although she also points out that our opinions can be very diverse. The best approach is to strive for good and honest communication.
