Forbitten Fae: Fated Guardians Book 1 is a paranormal novel by T. W. Pearce. Vampires have walked amongst the living for centuries and at their head is Sir Adrian Sutton, the Vampire King. In the late 90s, in New York City, Adrian's safe haven called Hell’s Kitchen serves as a paradise for the vampires and a barrier to keep the Usurpers and Guardians at bay. But the Guardians have sneaked in a spy in the form of a young fae called Moira Collins. She mends the vampires’ wounds during the day and reports to her true masters come nightfall. Her once-balanced double life soon becomes dangerously complicated as she and Adrian get closer. She sees only life in him, and he feels truly alive by her side. However, their newfound bliss is destined to end as an unknown enemy threatens the fragile peace between the dead and the living.

Forbitten Fae did an excellent job at keeping me enthralled by the supernatural world’s politics, the endearing romance, and the thrilling plot. The intrigue it sparked remained throughout my reading time. T. W. Pearce did a stellar job at creating the vampires’ hierarchy and I enjoyed getting to know how their empire worked. The thought that went into creating such rich lore and the care taken in crafting this structured world is greatly appreciated. Another thing I loved about this book is how Pearce allows the budding romance to develop organically, as opposed to the flawed approach that most authors use. I found the plot stimulating and well-written, but more importantly, it was a fun read. Every element, from the characters to the action scenes, was beautifully integrated.

The first book of T.W. Pearce's Fated Guardians series sets off on a stellar note with Forbitten Fae. Moira Collins is no ordinary woman. A fae healer who derives her powers from her connection to the surrounding flora, Moira performs the dangerous task of treating blood-thirsty vampires while living amongst their seethe in Hell's Kitchen, New York. Unbeknownst to the vampires though, Moira is a spy working for the Guardians, who want an insider to provide them with information about Sir Adrian Sutton, the king of the vampires. But a shocking attack on some vampires and their supply of human blood causes a chain of events that forces Adrian to perceive a threat to his reign. Meanwhile, Adrian becomes ever closer to Moira, despite her being a married woman and a fae. With a traitor in their midst, will Adrian prevail?

Romance novels featuring vampires have become something of a cultural norm over the years. But there is something different about Forbitten Fae. T.W. Pearce's fresh take on the genre results in a delicious mix of romance, suspense, mystery, and action. Apart from vampires, this is a rich fantasy world Pearce has created where fae, shifters, shamans, and a host of otherwordly creatures roam. The narrative primarily focuses on the two characters of Moira and Adrian, two opposites whose motives, actions, and outlooks on life couldn't be more different. This creates a compelling dynamic between the two that is riveting to read. Anyone who loves supernatural stories with an underlying romance will have a blast with this one.

Forbitten Fae: Fated Guardians Book 1 by T.W. Pearce is an intoxicating romance novel filled with action and suspense. Vampires rule Hell’s Kitchen. But someone is conspiring against their king, Adrian, to depose him and usher in a new era, at whatever cost. Adrian must investigate this betrayal and sniff out the culprit if he wishes to keep Hell’s Kitchen under his control. Moira is a fae healer working for the vampires, but her motives aren’t exactly selfless. Going to work every day with a secret to hide is taking its toll on Moira and it gets incredibly difficult every time the handsome and caring Adrian spends his precious time with her. But in a world filled with vampires, fae, shapeshifters, and other powerful species, can Moira ever truly trust the king of vampires?

I really enjoyed Forbitten Fae. T.W. Pearce has created a magnificent world with all new creatures and powers. The book is fast-paced and so interesting that I had to read it in one sitting. Moira and Adrian’s forbidden love is sweet and sexy; a great combination for a romance novel. T.W. Pearce’s little pun in the title is cute and clever and I’m embarrassed about how long it took me to catch it. I have to commend T.W. Pearce; she’s built an incredible fantasy world that readers would love to explore. I can’t wait for the next installment in the Fated Guardians series as I need more of Moira and Adrian in my life.

T.W. Pearce’s Forbitten Fae gives us a slow-burn romance on the cusp of fatal attraction between a fae and a vampire. Being the King of Vampires comes with a lot more responsibility than just a fancy title and, when his people’s blood supply is attacked, that just adds one more thing to Adrian’s plate. Enter our resident fae doctor, Moira Collins, and Adrian’s very married crush. When push comes to shove, these two band together to find the traitor and save his people. They say secrets keep you closer; let’s hope it’s true for Adrian and Moira.

First and foremost, I want more! I absolutely loved the beginnings of Adrian and Moira’s story. Much more must be unpacked, and Forbitten Fae by T.W. Pearce barely scrapes the top of the iceberg. Moira is happily married to her Shifter husband, Dustin or so it seems. Despite her marital status, Adrian can’t keep away from her. This scent of the forbidden only entices Adrian, thus making his attraction to Moira even more dangerous. And it’s not only Adrian who feels the connection between them. This attraction leaves Moira confused and has her questioning her loyalty and morals. Trying to figure out who their enemy is, will have you in knots and their identity was definitely an unexpected one. This is a must-read for all paranormal romance readers, especially those who love fae-vampire pairings. I can’t wait to read more about this couple and look forward to what else their journey has in store!
