Lucien is a modern vampire. He uses a cell phone, takes showers and can even digest real food on occasion. Lucien possesses an ability to absorb emotions from the humans around him. He feels their anger, frustration, and pain; but he can also feel their happiness, something he has been without since his wife and daughter were slaughtered many years earlier. When Lucien catches the scent of Samantha Sutton, he is immediately drawn to her, for she is everything he craves: she's beautiful, happy, contented. As Lucien stalks Samantha, he finds he can’t make the kill because Samantha has stirred cravings far from the physical. The more time Lucien spends with Samantha and her daughter, the more he finds himself falling in deep.

Forever Freed is narrated completely from Lucien’s point of view. Lucien is a likable character, but at times he seems more human than vampire. I would have liked to have seen more of his vampire side...see him lose control. Overall, the book was good and the characters engaging.
