In a fantastic new work of children’s fiction in the fantasy and science fiction genres, Freya and the Dragon Egg by author K.W. Penndorf, readers will be treated to an absolutely wonderful story that will have them hooked from the very first page. Follow the story of our protagonist, a young girl named Freya, as she finds herself transported to a magical forest and encounters real Vikings from long ago, as well as Sprites and a Berserk named Erik. Her father, a famous archaeologist, entrusted Freya with a precious artifact and asked her to hide it. But instead, the artifact has taken her on a wild adventure through time! Freya needs to find a way home, but along the way she finds a path to greatness that could change her family’s lives forever.

What a great read. Freya and the Dragon Egg is a fun, magical and adventurous tale that many middle grade readers will absolutely love. Author K.W. Penndorf has done a fantastic job creating characters, especially her main character, Freya, that her readers will be able to relate to, connect with, and care about. If that isn’t the hallmark of a great author, I’m not sure what is. I highly recommend this book to any middle grade reader looking for a great new story. I am excited that this book is the first in a planned series, and am looking forward to reading more from the very promising author, K.W. Penndorf, as soon as it is available!

Freya and the Dragon Egg by K.W. Penndorf is a children's fantasy and science fiction story about a young girl named Freya. Freya's father is a archaeologist who studies Norse mythology. One day, while he is cataloging Viking artifacts at the museum, the police approach her father. Her father gives Freya a tiny object to hide in a place where no one will ever find it. By asking her to protect this special object, he starts Freya on a journey into a world that she only read about in her father's books. But with the magical artifact, Freya finds herself transported into a magical forest with real Vikings. She meets a clan of sprites and makes friends with a Berserk named Erik. While she searches for a new way home, Freya must figure out how to overcome the bad guy and help save the world on this incredible, wild adventure.

This is a fantastic adventure story. Freya is a really awesome protagonist, because she is smart and spunky even if she is misunderstood by her family and those she loves most. I think young readers will really relate to her. I loved the Norse history that this story also exposed young readers to. I think reading is a great way to educate young people, so having an adventure story set in the Norse world about their mythology is a great, great idea and one that K.W. Penndorf pulls off stunningly!

Freya and the Dragon Egg is an epic fantasy for preteens and children written by K.W. Penndorf. Twelve-year-old Freya's dreams have gotten increasingly strange over the last few days. She's been dreaming of blue sparks that flicker and travel across the sky. Each night, the dreams became a little more involved until a voice began to tell her that it was time, and she saw the tree Yggdrasil in her vision. Being a middle child, Freya's used to taking care of her own problems or at least writing about them in her journal, but she did wish that her father, a Viking archaeologist, could help her understand what's going on. Would he consider her dreams important enough to spend some time trying to help her decipher the messages she seems to be receiving?

K.W. Penndorf's epic fantasy for children and preteens, Freya and the Dragon Egg, is an exciting and fast-paced time travel tale that is rich in Norse mythology. I enjoyed following as Freya traveled from her own time to the time of the Vikings and back again, and found her interactions with Erik, the Berserk, and Grimhild, the young Viking warrior-in-training, to be a lot of fun. Penndorf's writing flows beautifully, and her descriptions of the forest where Erik and Freya try to resolve their problems are compelling and full of life. Being a middle child, I was particularly in sync with Freya's feelings about family, and enjoyed seeing how she grows strong and faces her challenges full on. Freya and the Dragon Egg is highly recommended for epic fantasy fans.
