Gabrielle by Robert Ansell is a non-fiction New Age story about a very special woman. Five years after Gabrielle Roth, the American dancer and musician in the world music and trance dance fields, who also pioneered the 5Rhythms approach to movement in the late 1970s, passed away, her husband of 35 years came up with this poignant tribute of a book. When a young guy walks into an intensive care unit to kill his brother with a shotgun, Robert Ansell meets a novelist interested in writing the story, and like a ripple in the sea, it leads to the fateful meeting with Gabrielle, and his life is never the same again. Thrust into Gabrielle's world, the criminal lawyer spends the next 35 years of his life with an extraordinary woman, and this is their story.
Robert Ansell's Gabrielle is an intimate and highly interesting glimpse at the life that Gabrielle Roth and Robert Ansell created together. For many of us, Gabrielle Roth is an icon with hundreds of 5Rhythms teachers worldwide now using her pioneering approach in their work. Through this book, however, we get to know her as a friend, wife, mother and grandmother and, surprisingly, this loving revelation seems to make her more of a celebrity instead of less. This story is not your usual love story because Ansell writes with a revealing sincerity that is absolutely not contrived. And in the end, he paints a picture of Gabrielle that is perhaps more human than most of us expect -- an extraordinary human being -- and it makes their story more compelling.
