In Gambling on a Scoundrel, Sheridan Jeane shows us how a casino palace owner and a journalist can cross paths and fall in love, slowly but surely, and find utter bliss. In Sheridan Jeane’s Gambling on a Scoundrel, Tempy Bliss is a newly successful journalist. As a lonely heiress, she has plenty of time to spend on her career because her fiancé Ernest is in France. When Charles Dickens asks her to write an article about gambling, she jumps at the opportunity to prove her talent. It is an honor and she would do anything to write this article and prove her worth.
Lucien Hamlin, the owner of the casino, is furious to find out that Tempy Bliss is a journalist; he bans her from ever entering the place. He unexpectedly inherited an earldom and he does not want anyone to know about it because he has sold the casino. But when he bans Tempy, she realizes that there is something devious happening in the casino and she tries to find out what it is. To fuel her fire, her fiancé writes to say that he has fallen in love with a Frenchwoman and he is leaving Tempy for her. The mystery at the Hamlin House Casino is the perfect place to distract her and she will stop at nothing to uncover the mystery.
Gambling on a Scoundrel by Sheridan Jeane is a well paced romance novel. However, I have to admit, I do not like Tempy at all. Even though her fiancé left her, she is set on getting him back. I do not understand why she would do that because that man is just heinous. Now, Lucien is another thing. He is the one reason I kept on reading the novel and I’m glad I did. He is the perfect man; protective, loving, encouraging and really dashing. I loved him!
