I love this book!!! Author Alayjiah Bargnare discusses the good, bad and failures in her life as a single black woman who grew up in Leavenworth and Lansing, Kansas. I was floored when I discovered that because I grew up and have lived in Kansas my entire life! Although, she was in a different part of Kansas, I was inspired and intrigued when reading her work because of how much she went through over the years. My heart broke when I read about her molestation for two years from Mary-Kate and possibly from her father who was murdered. Despite having no support from her mother when she, Asia, was enduring heinous unnecessary abuse, Asia had the goal and tenacity to achieve her dreams.

I was inspired and could relate in so many ways to Asia's writing about her sexual abuse. I felt empowered, and I believe that everyone would benefit from her work. She does have some inappropriate words in her writing, but it reflects her culture. I could overlook them and got hooked on reading the book because of how much she endured. I commend her for overcoming her circumstances and wish her the best.
