Author Biography

Hi there! K. E. Blaski here. I am a writer of Young Adult and Middle Grade fiction. My alter ego is an associate professor where I routinely incorporate story telling into my classroom. I am also the Senior Partner at Slug Pie Stories, LLC where we publish Mick Bogerman's award-winning "How to" scary adventure series for ages 8-12+.

My past lives provide plenty of material for my writing, including work as a waitress, radio disk jockey, drug sales rep, backup vocalist in an 80s cover band and entrepreneur.

I am a long-time member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and recently joined the Alliance of Independent Authors, and the Independent Book Publishers Association.

My interests are diverse and include everything from science and music to hanging out on the beach appearing to do absolutely nothing (in actuality, dreaming up the next story). And of course, I write, write, write and then I write some more. I also have a soft spot for zombie books and movies.

A wanderer at heart, I have lived in nine states and traveled all over the world, currently residing in the midwest inside a shrinking house with two teens, two crazy kittens: Max and Simone, and a mutt named SIS.

"Damen had two days, five hours, and twenty-two minutes left to save Nyima’s soul." And thus begins Glimmer of Steel by K.E. Blaski, a story so all consuming, so breathtakingly rich as to transport a reader's soul. On a distant planet, a bloodthirsty tyrant rules with an iron fist. Literally. Augmented through dark magic and covered by an impenetrable metal skin, Noble Tortare has his sights set on a new bride: the beautiful Nyima, Damen's oldest and dearest friend. If marriage were all Noble had in mind, things would still be bad enough, but with his tendency to consume his brides' souls on their wedding night... Damen will risk anything to save Nyima, even doom another in her place. But when Damen's mad scheme to save Nyima actually works, he's faced with an unexpected dilemma: he is unmistakably drawn to this new soul, the feisty Jennica, and must do all in his power to protect her as well.

With Glimmer of Steel, K.E. Blaski has created an absolute feast! In a story brimming with intrigue and deception, readers are swiftly drawn into an alien world fraught with familiar dangers. Although so many aspects of life on planet Astrune are foreign, they're introduced in such a way as to leave readers feeling comfortable in their surroundings. The world building is lush, absolutely brilliant, and characters are well realized. Our two main characters, Damen and Jennica, are fully rendered and relatable in their strengths and weaknesses. Similarly well portrayed is the villain Noble Tortare, as well as several minor characters of questionable intentions. Billed as Book 1 of The Books of Astrune series, I was very pleased with the ending: a satisfying conclusion with clear paths for future stories to progress. K.E. Blaski has created something special, a real treat for readers!

Great new fantasy author and world to dive into!

I really enjoyed this book. I can't believe Kindle Scout didn't pick it up. I found it while scouting KS and gave it a nomination. I was disappointed when it wasn't picked, but glad it still got published. I really wanted to read this one.

Damen wants to save his best friend that has been promised to marry the evil Noble overlord. The only way is to switch her soul. The soul that jumps in is a girl from Earth called Jennica. Somehow she figures a way to keep the Noble overlord from sucking away her soul, and stays alive. But slowly, she falls for Damen, the man that trapped her in this new planet, and together they try to figure a way to save her permanently. But since dark magic is involved, nothing is ever certain.

I really enjoyed the world Blaski sets up. The fact an Earth soul is seeing it for the first time is a nice twist, and it's fun all the differences and nuances Blaski creates. From purple skin that creates lust in others, to silver armor scales, and magic fueled by a mineral called Urion, the new world Jennica has landed in is fun to disappear into. I looked forward to reading this every night, and was sad when I was done. I'm already ready for more. I hope Blaski can write fast. I recommend this for people that want to try out a new fantasy author and dive into a world for awhile.

Great read...buckle in and enjoy the ride!

Glimmer of Steel is a great read with a strong female lead, who has a soft side too. This is a sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat kind of book which will keep readers engrossed to the very end. After Jennica is ripped from Earth and transported to Astrune, she finds a way to not only survive in her new world but to thrive and make her new world a better place. Buckle in and enjoy the ride!

While fantasy is not usually my fist pick of genres, this book was a fun, exciting read. The further I dove into the book, the more difficult it was to put down. The authors imagination is to be admired and she has the ability to fully share it with the reader. I was truly transported to another world in rich detail. The exciting ending left me thinking of many places future books could go. Places I'd certainly be happy to visit!

Glimmer of Steel is one of the best stories I've read in a long time. I really enjoyed the fresh take on the fantasy genre (which is my favorite). The characters are diverse and engaging, the world is unique and detailed, and the story kept me guessing until the very end. I can't wait for the next book!

Pleasantly Surprised!

This genre is typically not one that I would read or enjoy, but Glimmer of Steel caught my attention and kept it. I wanted to keep reading to find out what happened next. It had a very interesting plot with good character development. There was plenty of suspense and kept you wondering what would happen next.
