Goliath Fallen by A.C. Louis is a science fiction action adventure. The setting is a gigantic spacecraft called Goliath that houses the last remnants of mankind. After Goliath undergoes a devastating attack by alien forces, it becomes a floating shell of its once glorious self. Only a few survivors remain and this story follows two of them: a man named Nate and his 13-year-old daughter Izzy. The ship contains enough food, water, and other necessities for Nate and Izzy to eke out a meager existence, but there are also blood-thirsty alien creatures hiding in the shadows. Strange signals hint that there may be more survivors in one of Goliath’s sister ships. This possibility brings hope to Nate and Izzy but the journey to get to them is fraught with much danger.

Goliath Fallen is a lot of fun to read. First, and most importantly, its human characters are well-written with strong personalities that make them easy to relate to. Second, the story is full of palpable tension that carries the reader along from one nail-biting scene to the next. A.C. Louis has brilliantly combined these two key story elements, strong characters, and an equally strong plot to create a novel that is pure entertainment. The setting of a damaged starship somewhere in the vastness of outer space is original and also a key element that amplifies the tension from start to finish. That claustrophobic danger combined with monsters roaming the ship reminded me of the classic Alien movies. I highly recommend this book. It's an out-of-this-world, science-fiction thrill ride that’s hard to put down.
