Halloween at Luke’s: Togetherness is Happiness by Priya Pasumarthy is a delightful treat without any of the tricks. It’s time for Halloween! Tom and Lyda Luke have much to do to get ready. Their first step is to decorate their house with spooky decorations. Skeletons and lights fill their house with delight. The two dream of having the perfect Halloween with all their friends stopping by to go trick or treating. A knock at the door brings their Halloween plans to life when all their friends show up for a night out together, but one which delivers a very important lesson. All they need to have fun isn’t candy, but simply being together.

The important takeaway from this story is that Halloween is more than candy or treats. This story is about being together with those you love and having fun, which is where true happiness lies. Priya Pasumarthy highlights the importance of happiness through Tom and Lyda’s honest joy and excitement at seeing their friends and how they all come together to celebrate. The colorful illustrations give lovely visuals to each of the characters, which show the various anthropomorphic animals and give a stunning visual of the decorations. The illustrations have rich details and children will enjoy seeing the various characters.

Although the story is set during Halloween, it doesn’t go the typical route associated with the day - instead, the tone is cheery and promotes friendship and happiness. Tom and Lyda have only one wish and that’s for everyone to be with them, which comes true for unforgettable Halloween fun. Priya Pasumarthy delivers a sweet reminder that teaches children to enjoy the fun of Halloween by being with friends, though the lesson in happiness can be used every day of the year. Halloween at Luke’s is an endearing read that brings warmth and cheer to Halloween through a story about friendship and happiness.

Halloween at Lukes is the story of two bears preparing for Halloween festivities. As they decorate, they hear a knock-knock at the door. It's a friend who wants to join them. Soon another friend knocks. And then another. Before long, the house is filled with neighborhood revelers.

Halloween at Luke's is a cute story to share with little ones. The illustrations are vibrant, and the images are not too scary. After reading the story, children can plan their own festivities and experience the joy of celebrating with others. Recommended for children ages 3-7.
