Harley Basil is not your average dog, but his family tends to misunderstand him; they think he's lazy. Sure, he appears to be lazy, but he likes to take things easy. Sure, he likes to take naps, even in the middle of the kitchen floor, but any dog would that works as hard as Harley Basil does. In the beautifully illustrated children's picture book, Harley Basil and the Lost Pup, with story by Lena Cannata Patterson and illustrations by Penny Weber, young readers will enjoy the adventures of Harley Basil. Harley Basil discovers that his family is traveling to England without him because they believe that all he'll do is sleep all day. He doesn't want them to leave him with the dog sitter so he thinks of a plan. He enjoys himself on his vacation, but he discovers that the Queen's puppy is missing so he embarks on a journey to locate the puppy and win back the favor of his family.
This is such a cute, simple and fun story. Young readers will enjoy looking at the colorful pictures and vicariously living with Harley Basil as he saves his family from flash photographers, the dark, water and balloons. The irony is that children will also see that what Harley Basil believes to be a danger to his family is the same thing that he had to overcome to rescue the Queen's missing puppy. Discover what happens with the Queen when Harley Basil finds the puppy. Does finding the puppy change his family's view of how they see him? Hint: you will find out that there is more to Harley Basil than meets the eye...
