I am originally from Minnesota but now live in Colorado. My husband was in the Air Force for 32 years allowing us to live in many beautiful places. I was diagnosed with MS in 2010 and since then have written two children's books. I am donating a percentage of my book sales towards research for MS. Have You Ever Seen a Firefly? is a wonderfully illustrated book for preschool children. The pictures stimulate a child's imagination and the questions asked by author Debbie Estrem will surely initiate questions by parents as to what piques the interests of the listeners. The questions are meant to stimulate young minds such that a classroom of preschool children will be raising hands and competing to add their own impressions of personal experiences. Afterwards, the teacher or parent would be wise to ask the child listener to try to think of unusual things they might have seen recently. For children who are not highly verbal, the child might be asked to draw a favorite thing or experience and then relate why that event or object was so meaningful.
Author Estrem tried to rhyme the questions and, at times, the rhymes appeared to be a bit of a stretch. But, the illustrations more than make up for the verse. They are colorful and engaging. The pictures in Have You Ever Seen a Firefly? are highly appealing to young children and captivating in their expressions and emotions. Certainly the questions cover a myriad of ideas such as animals, travel, tastes, experiences in play and beautiful visual sensations of nature. My favorite was the koala bear which is what inspired the author to write the book. Some of the profits from the sale of the book go to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation so it is well worth a parent supporting both a good cause and a child's imagination!
