A sheriff, a teacher, and a group of audacious pupils defy the headmistress of a prominent private school to uncover the mystery behind missing students in the thrilling horror novel, Have You Seen Me? by Alexandrea Weis. When the history teacher at Waverly, Aubrey's private school alma mater, takes a leave of absence, she is happy to take the job. Unfortunately, right before Aubrey starts teaching, a student disappears. This isn't the first time it has happened. In the 1980s, three girls disappeared from Waverly and were never seen or heard from again. Ten years earlier, Aubrey's nemesis mysteriously vanished between classes, and for a short while, Aubrey was the prime suspect. In an attempt to come to terms with her past while helping the students cope, Aubrey allows her first class to investigate the girls' abductions. Even though the headmistress tries to block their investigation, the sheriff accepts and appreciates their efforts. When one of their group is found dead, they realize a killer is stalking the school. How many more will have to die before they catch the murderer?

Reminiscent of a slasher film, Have You Seen Me? by Alexandrea Weis is an edgy and exciting thriller. Skillfully written, it is a gripping and nightmare-inducing tale that is unforgettable. In the same fashion as a horror movie, the plot contains a spooky school setting that is the perfect backdrop for the blood and mayhem unleashed. Including intense nail-biting scenes, courageous characters, and a blood-curdling plot, the story eerily depicts a chilling game of cat-and-mouse between teens and a serial killer. It had me on the edge of my seat from the moment I picked the book up until I reached the shocking conclusion. Brimming with action, drama, and suspense, it is a spine-tingling novel that will thrill fans of horror novels and slasher flicks.

Anxious for a fresh start and relieved at the opportunity to exorcise demons from her past, Aubrey LaRoux returns to Waverly Preparatory School, her Alma Mater, in the reverse role as a teacher rather than a student. Not much has changed she notices by the parking lot full of BMWs as well as the imposing presence of Head Mistress Sara Probst. There was also a situation of another missing student from the campus, the sister of a girl who supposedly ran away when Aubrey was a student there. As Aubrey settles into her new life, her students become increasingly curious about her connection to the mysterious disappearance of their new teacher’s former classmate. When students once again begin disappearing, Aubrey finds herself in the center of suspicion.

Have You Seen Me? by Alexandrea Weis is a fast-paced tale of smoke and mirrors that successfully sucks in the reader and doesn’t let go until the turning of the final page. Strong personalities and believable character traits add to a closely-knit storyline. As the main character works toward gaining her students' trust, she painfully fortifies a necessary backbone in coping with past fears and insecurities. The setting of Waverly Preparatory School fits its description of upper-class private education and allows for a dark atmosphere that complements the story’s overall mood. Vivid descriptions and explicit crime scenes are evident and probably not appropriate for young and/or impressionable readers. Alexandrea Weis allows for the possibility of a sequel in her unexpected twist at the end. A fun read.

After ten years, Aubrey LaRoux has made her way back to her alma mater, Waverly Preparatory School; this time as a history teacher. Even now, she finds the school and its stringent headmistress, Sara Probst, intimidating. The news of a student going missing brings back traumatic memories from her school days when a young girl named Marjorie disappeared without a trace. When the missing student, Lindsey, turns out to be Marjorie’s stepsister, Aubrey is convinced that the two cases are linked. Lindsey’s friends assist her in investigating the matter, that is until someone starts to murder them, too. What sinister secrets lurk underneath the imposing façade of Waverly? Why is Sara Probst intent on keeping the school open at all costs? Find out in this chilling thriller by Alexandrea Weis, Have You Seen Me?

The setting of the book alone was enough to send shivers down my spine. Situated near a Civil War battleground, which previously used to be Native American territory, Waverly’s history is unnerving. The rumors of displeased ghosts and Chitimacha rituals add to the atmospheric nature of the book. Weis has written a tale that keeps readers holding their breaths, helplessly waiting for the killer to strike again. As the students turn up dead one after another, an uneasy, nagging sensation grips us. With a series of twists masking shocking truths, we pray for Aubrey to unravel the mysteries and thwart the killer before time runs out. Have You Seen Me? is a must-read for any reader who appreciates psychological thrillers.
