The first book, Heartsick, introduces the unusual relationship between Detective Archie Sheridan and serial killer, Gretchen Lowell. While investigating a rash of murders unrelated to this relationship, Archie continues to be a victim of his torturer. “I’ve got it under control.“ Is it a conscious choice or is he reluctant to maintain the tie that binds?

Heartsick is a fascinating read. With each page, the question “What happens next?” is in the forefront of the mind.

The second book, Sweetheart, continues with Archie and Gretchen. Once again, Archie cleaves to his relationship with Gretchen, while attempting to return to a “normal” life with his family. While investigating yet another series of unrelated murders, Archie seems to disconnect from reality. Will his attempts at normalcy pull him back to his old life or will Gretchen win in the end?
Sweetheart holds you hostage in a way that you cannot escape.

Both books have quite a bit of profanity and some sex scenes, which I find really unnecessary. However, the books are believable and fascinating in a disturbing kind of way.
