Henry the Astronaut by Jonna Amato Ocampo is an adorable children’s book on space travel and the imagination of one little boy, Henry, who just happens to be a teddy bear. Henry dreams of being an astronaut. One night he blasts off in his super rocket ship from his yard to explore the Earth’s moon, stars, seven planets, and Pluto. Ocampo includes interesting and easy-to-understand facts about each of Henry’s intergalactic visits. Her inclusion of a solar system slide is ingenious. It is easily an object all children will be able to relate to as a mode of stellar travel. Henry’s brief introduction to gravity and micro-gravity was an interesting concept that is sure to leave children eager to do additional research and reading on the subject. The story simply encourages one to always reach for their dreams.

Jonna Amato Ocampo’s Henry the Astronaut is a perfect bedtime story for the preschool and early elementary aged child. I consulted with my resident experts, the nieces and nephews, to evaluate the book's cover, its artwork, and its content. Was it appropriate, attention-grabbing, directed toward the targeted audience, and did its message come through? The answers to these questions were uniformly "yes." In fact, they requested a second and third reading of the book. The cover artwork and illustrations are indeed top-notch, and the writing definitely geared toward the targeted age group. Thank you, Jonna, for creating a book that is certain to inspire generations of children to dream their dreams and reach for the stars.
