Her Dark Matter Necklace by Robert Albo is the story of a fifteen-year-old girl called Alice who is given a special necklace on her birthday. She is given it by her headmaster. He tells her it belonged to the founder of the school and with it, he could work miracles. Alice is understandably confused by this, wondering why she was chosen. Later, the necklace enables her to travel to other worlds in her dreams. She meets alien beings and learns that she has a mission - to bring beauty to her world. Soon though, Alice finds that she is in real danger. How can she possibly save her world when she barely knows what she is doing? Alice must trust her own instincts, work with her allies, and learn to harness the power she possesses.

Robert Albo has written an intriguing tale with Her Dark Matter Necklace. Initially, looking at the cover, I expected the protagonist to be younger. Alice is a regular girl who has lost her parents so she is dealing with a lot already before being given her gift. Alice is given this ability, not knowing what it entails, and as the story plays out, we learn that it is part of a larger plan and that the fate of the world rests on her shoulders. I think this book is a little harder to place when it comes to genre. It has sci-fi elements, but it also reads like urban fantasy too. I think readers of both genres would enjoy this book. I would recommend it.
