Twelve year old Herbert’s dream was to be a firefighter ,like his father. His father had died a hero, saving a family from a fire. His next favorite dream was to be a boy scout. The closest scout meeting was a mile from Herbert’s apartment. Roscoe was the neighborhood bully. Every time he saw Herbert in his scout uniform he made fun of Herbert and tried to pick a fight.

One afternoon, Herbert came home late from his meeting only to find his apartment house on fire. The smoke was coming from Roscoe’s apartment window. Roscoe was trapped in the burning building. Herbert used what he learned in scouts to rescue Roscoe.

Sam Brown offers children an excellent book filled with life lessons. Herbert is a small boy with big dreams. He knows his dreams can come true. Roscoe has a change of heart and becomes Herbert’s friend. This book depicts the Boy Scouts in an excellent light. I am honored to recommend his book to all children ,especially boys. There are only a few books on the market focused on boys. Well done Mr. Brown.
