Quinn Matthews is a thirty-something lifestyle journalist with burgeoning psychic abilities. When she scores free tickets to a video shoot for popular Goth-rock band, Mad Love, she is thrilled. Her excitement is replaced by horror after a large piece of plaster falls from the stage proscenium, barely missing the lead guitarist and severely injuring a cameraman instead. Is it an unfortunate accident, sabotage, or something much more sinister? Right before the piece falls, Quinn sees a shadowy figure walking along the top of the proscenium. When Quinn discovers that the proscenium is too narrow to support a flesh-and-blood person, she fears supernatural forces may be at play. Hopeful that her psychic abilities will lead to answers and concerned about privacy, the band hires Quinn to investigate not only the incident at the video shoot, but also a string of suspicious accidents which plagued its last tour and a series of threatening messages from more than one fan-turned-stalker.

The second title in the Quinn Matthews Haunting Mystery series, Hex, Death & Rock ’n’ Roll gives the reader a wide variety of suspects and motives to choose from and keeps the reader turning pages to the very end. The story is a light and enjoyable, if not always cohesive, read. The on-again, off-again dynamic between Quinn and her investigative journalist boyfriend Tony tends to slow the pace of the story down. Quinn needs to dump Tony and find a much more interesting and supportive boyfriend.
