This is such an amazing book that once I started reading it I found it difficult to put down. It’s the story of one town located in Northern Canada and the few residents who live there. The main characters are Brian and his girlfriend Mary. There is a long list of secondary characters. The citizens are constantly pulling practical jokes on each other and on the neighboring town. They had a wake around Johnny Michael a trapper who froze to death. There was a body snatching and many other practical jokes and pranks. There is a serious side to the book also demonstrating tragedy and emotional happiness.

There is a time and place for everything, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones. I found this quote to be the backbone of the whole story. The characters came alive for me. I felt as if I was part of the story. It’s not just a humorous book; it’s a story of life, friends, and the love and friendship they share. Eventually each has to go out on their own. Their close friendship makes this an emotional parting.

This is an excellent well written book that I could read again. The tragedies, the humor, the friendships, the everyday happenings in life are all there for the reader to grasp and hold on to. This book is character driven. The author is a master at characterization. I would recommend this book for all who enjoy reading a general fiction book.
