Honey Harvest by Elissa Kerr is a delightful, beautifully illustrated storybook that teaches children about beekeeping and honey harvesting. There are many ways in which to enjoy honey and the little girl wonders how the honey gets from the bees into the jars. The day comes when her father includes her in the harvesting process, and she learns first-hand how to collect and process the delicious treat. They both don their beekeeper outfits and, using a smoker, they calm the bees and remove the honey frames. After the frames go through the extractor process and the honey is bottled, the wax is removed. The author includes instructions on how and when to harvest and store honey.

An absolute delight to read and learn from, Honey Harvest is a charming little book that would interest any child, as well as some adults. I enjoyed learning about the honey harvesting process as seen through the eyes of a little girl. Author Elissa Kerr has gone to great lengths to include all the information surrounding honey production in the most attractive way. The book is professionally written and exquisitely illustrated. The two characters are well defined, and the story is smooth flowing, easy to understand, and is deserving of a place on every bookshelf. The little girl’s enquiring mind and enthusiasm about honey is an inspiration. The story is both unusual and educational, teaching children that honey does not simply appear on a supermarket shelf. A fantastic book highly recommended for children of all ages.
